Privacy Policy

Effective [date of publication] · Last updated 8 October 2026

Akimoa is a household app for shared money, tasks, groceries and documents. This policy explains what information the Akimoa apps for Android and iPhone handle, where it goes, and the choices you have. It is operated by [Akimoa legal entity name and registered address] ("Akimoa", "we", "us").

The short version

1. Information you give us

2. Bank and card messages

Akimoa can turn bank alerts into expenses you review, so you don't have to type them. All of these are optional and off until you turn them on.

SMS on Android (READ_SMS and RECEIVE_SMS)

Notifications on Android

If you give Akimoa notification access, it keeps only notifications that look like a payment from bank apps, or bank SMS shown by your messaging app. The same on-device handling applies: nothing is uploaded, and nothing is added until you confirm it.

iPhone

iPhone doesn't let apps read messages. If you set up a Shortcuts automation, the automation hands the bank message you receive to Akimoa. It's handled on your phone exactly like Android SMS.

Sharing and pasting

Messages you share or paste into Akimoa are handled the same way, on your phone.

Deliveries, appointments and renewals

Akimoa can also recognise messages about deliveries, appointments and plans that are about to expire, and suggest a reminder for them. These are handled on your phone in the same way. Any one-time code in a delivery message is blanked out before anything is saved, and a delivery drops off your Home screen once its day has passed.

Forwarded emails

You can get a private Akimoa forwarding address and set your email to forward bank alert emails to it. Those emails pass through our email provider [e.g. Postmark] to our servers. We keep only emails that look like a transaction (and your email provider's forwarding confirmation), and discard the rest on arrival. Kept emails wait on our server only until your phone picks them up, and are then deleted. Anything not picked up is deleted after 7 days. We never access the rest of your mailbox. You can replace your forwarding address at any time.

3. AI features

When you use Ask Akimoa or AI insights, your question and the parts of your household information needed to answer it (for example your spending by category) are sent from our servers to an AI model provider: [the providers in use: OpenAI, Google (Gemini) and/or Groq]. They process it to generate the answer under their API terms. [Confirm each provider's plan doesn't use API data for training (paid OpenAI, Groq and paid Gemini API don't; free Gemini API tiers may), then state it here.] The app removes internal identifiers before sending. AI features run only when you use them.

4. Camera, microphone and documents

4a. Plus, trials, rewards and referrals

4b. Backups

Backups you make from Settings are encrypted on your phone with a passphrase you choose, and saved where you decide. We never receive the file or the passphrase, and can't recover it if the passphrase is lost.

5. Where your information is stored

6. Who we share information with

We don't sell or rent your information, and we don't share it for advertising. It is shared only:

7. How long we keep it

Bank message text (SMS, notifications, shared or pasted)On your phone only, until you add or dismiss it, then up to 30 days
Forwarded bank emailsOn our servers until your phone picks them up; at most 7 days

8. Your choices and rights

9. Security

Data is encrypted in transit and on your device. Access on our servers is limited by row-level security. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you as required by law if a breach affects you.

10. Children

Adults can add children to their household in Akimoa, for example to track chores and pocket money. Children don't get their own login: a parent enters and manages everything about them, and only the household can see it. Akimoa is not directed at children and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them directly.

11. Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect. The date at the top shows the latest version.
